Whetstone School Reunion at Galion Nursing Home

Galion, Ohio - The Whetstone School class of 1950 met at Mill Creek for a class get together. This close-knit group meets monthly, inviting the class that was above and below them. One of the members of the class, Mary Zimmerman, is a resident at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab. Her spouse William was in the class of 1951. This group was served a delicious lunch as they reminisced. Some of the stories included school closing in 1945 from Christmas Break until Valentine's Day due to snow. Whetstone School was a 12 year school that was torn down a few years ago. It was at this school that this small caring group grew up together. These classes have created a strong bond from this little school that is no longer there. There were only 200 students in the school with two grades in a room. The school mascot was the Hornet and the school colors were green and white. The girls wore bloomers when playing basketball and they only played half-court. They still remember their favorite teachers Ms. Crall and Ms. Gynther. It was an honor and pleasure having this wonderful group at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab. Do you remember Whetstone School?
