Living Out Our Culture of Care

June 10, 2022
Stasia Ulmer is our Activity Director at Mill Creek and has been with us for over 13 years. Stasia is the perfect example of our Culture of Care and lives by every single one of our Core Values. One of the first Core Values that she carries out daily is “It’s never about the role, it’s always about the goal.” When she is not engaging in activities, you can find her answering call lights, passing trays and assisting with feeds, pulling weeds in the courtyard and around the building, giving admission tours, assisting in the kitchen, and so much more. Whenever something needs done, you can find Stasia right there waiting to be of help.

Another Core Value that comes to mind when describing Stasia is “Do what is right, even when no one is watching.” During our Covid outbreak last year, Stasia’s only concern was our residents' well-being, ensuring that while we had to adhere to isolation policies, our residents still had the spiritual and human interaction that anyone should have in such hard times. After working over 16 hours one day, Stasia headed over to the Covid Unit to continue to work. When asked later why she didn’t just go home after working such a long day, her response was, “I need to make sure that our residents still feel the love and happiness that they deserve, whether I am extremely tired or whether it puts me at risk for Covid or not. I want to make sure our residents still have activities to do and someone to talk to. Also, no one wants to miss Bingo!” Stasia has such an enormous desire to create positive resident outcomes and will do everything in her power to do so.

Another Core Value that Stasia carries out is “Feel empathy, show sincerity, provide dignity, experience prosperity.” Since our fire at Mill Creek, Stasia has not stopped traveling to other facilities and visiting our residents weekly. From bringing Bingo for them to play, continuing to take them on outings, to just sitting and chatting and praying with them, she provides so much comfort and love during this difficult time. Stasia constantly says, “We are Mill Creek Strong, and we will overcome all of this! Our residents will be back home in no time!”

These aren’t even a fraction of the examples of all that Stasia does. A final Core Value that Stasia carries out is “Treat a disease, you may win, you may lose. Treat a person, you’ll win, no matter what.” Words cannot express the amazing and kind person that Stasia is. She puts our residents before anything and would do whatever she can to put a smile on their face! She has an enormous heart, and her grace and dedication to Mill Creek and our residents is unmatched. From being a Master Bingo Announcer to the best Activity Director around, Stasia is truly the perfect example of our Culture of Care and who we should all strive to be. She is full of pure love and joy, and we are beyond blessed to have her on our team!
